Talent Show

March 15, 2024

From the captivating performances to the seamless organization, it was evident that our community came together in celebration of creativity and artistry.

To all the performers who showcased their talents with passion and flair: Your hard work and commitment to your craft were truly inspiring, and you brought joy to all who were fortunate enough to witness your performances.

Our students were surrounded by love and support and even our guest Bishop Luke extended his gratitude for singing with our students from our refugee center.

As we reflect on the success of the talent show, let us carry forward the spirit of creativity, collaboration, and community that made it all possible. Together, we have demonstrated the power of coming together to celebrate talent and support one another.

The following students will be moved to the community school talent show for the city. If you see them congratulate them. Thank you again!

Young Ambassadors and Community School Student Committee

March 1, 2024

Our group of 8 Young Ambassadors and community school student committee completed a second day of service at the UK refugee Community Center meeting with the Bishop; bringing him to happy tears.

The culinary arts students and Chef Beck worked on an Eastern European Dish that the families were able to enjoy and eat with some of our students. They of course served yummy desserts as well providing over 20 families with dinner.

The students helped pick out educational materials including puzzles, flash cards, books and more to delivery over 20 filled book bags to the center. They were able to sit with the families and read, sing, and enjoy each other’s cultures. The Bishop was overjoyed with the amounts of donations and engagement with the families.

The students are doing an amazing job closing the gaps in our community and coming together to serve all. (Many are applying to the Drexel University Impact Award.)

Social Justice students at Leadership Conference.

Yesterday, on February 15, 2024, a few members of the Social Justice Club attended a Leadership Conference hosted by University of Pennsylvania for students all over the tri-state area. Juelz Palmero, Mohinur Rashidova, and/or Diyora Rakhidova, received leadership certificate from UPenn for their dedicated and consistent work in making GW a better place.

The event had guest speakers from all over the country and 6 different workshops for the students to attend. The outcome goal for the day was for the students to determine a major problem or roadblock in our school and come up with a reasonable, possible, student accessible solution that they will put into action. Our kids decided to focus on creating a way for students to find their place at GW. They recognized that, while so many of our students have found their team, squad, club, organization, or mentor here at GW, so many others have slipped through the cracks- something bound to happen at a school this large. The students are going to present their proposal to administration some time next week, and are VERY excited to share it with the school community once it gets approved.
